 It’s about how the nature of the setting affects the main characters in the story. Tomorrow, Saturday 8 June, my book is one week old and I’m thrilled at how well it’s doing within a genre (as a writer) I never expected to be associated with. I’m Welsh, I spent many years in London and have now lived in Australia long enough to know it as home. Although I wrote The House on Burra Burra Lane with an Australian feel, my intent was that any person, in any county, who had lived in a small town or a rural and remote area (and those who wish they had lived or could live in those places) would connect with the people, the community and the ambiance of small-town country life and recognise how the characters in the story might have already fallen for its charms or struggle to find their feet. I didn’t intentionally write a Rural Romance, I wrote a story … it happened to be set in an rural area and it happened to hold a big romance. I’m extremely happy with the genre my story has settled into, thanks to Escape Publishing, and have already started work on book two in the Swallow’s Fall series, and even book three. Which is surprising - because I didn’t intend to write a Rural Romance!
