Excerpt from Summer and the Groomsman by Cathryn HeinEnjoy this glimpse of big Harry Argyle, the hero of Summer and the Groomsman. Harry is waiting nervously at Lush Spa and Beauty for the wedding party’s bonding session to begin... The women entered, chattering non-stop about dresses and the champagne they’d indulged in. All right for some. What Harry wouldn’t do for a fortifying beer or two. Em kissed Josh fondly, while Harry received a smile and nod, but he noticed a distinct lack of warmth in the greeting Digby returned to his sister. Digby stepped toward Jas, effectively giving Em the shoulder. For a fleeting moment Em’s mouth curved downward then returned to normal as Josh whispered something in her ear. Harry frowned at Digby. Em’s brother might be best man and Harry only groomsman, but that didn’t mean Harry was going to let anything spoil this wedding. And it wouldn’t hurt Dig to set aside his blame for a few days. Em had nothing to do with Felicity’s death other than the accident occurring on her property. The coroner had even found that her attempts to save Felicity had been as heroic as Josh’s. Jas seemed to have it under control though. The intense way she was talking to Dig, her body close, eye contact fierce and voice low, suggested a telling-off. It also implied intimacy. Interesting. He glanced at Teagan who was watching Dig and Jas also, her expression revealing she’d noticed the same. She met his gaze and for a moment they shared their private knowledge, before Em clapped her hands and drew their attention elsewhere. “Ready?” “Dig and I are,” said Josh. “Harry’s not. The big girl. He’s terrified he’s going to get waxed and lose all his manliness like Samson.” Harry rolled his eyes. Big girl, his arse. He was taller and more built than all of them put together. “At least I’ve got the testosterone to grow more.” “Stop fretting.” A poke from Jas landed in his ribs. “They’ll only wax you if you ask.” “I wasn’t fretting.” “Sure, you weren’t.” Fortunately, he was saved from more ribbing by the arrival of a short, slender woman with over-arched eyebrows, flawless skin and her blonde hair tied back in a bun. She looked like a doll. A doll with the greenest eyes he’d ever seen. Harry couldn’t stop staring. “Jesus,” he muttered. A nudge had him looking down. It was Teagan. “It’s all fake. Pancake makeup and coloured contact lenses.” “Right,” he said, pursing his lips. He knew that. “Everyone here?” asked Dollybird. Em nodded. “And looking forward to it.” “Great. Everything’s prepared.” She smiled at them in turn. “Now, girls first.” From the corridor behind emerged three equally slim women wearing outfits that seemed more appropriate for a pharmacy or science lab than a beauty salon. “Em, you’re with Megan. Jas, if you’ll go with Sandy? And Teagan, we’ve paired you with Katie.” Em planted a kiss on Josh’s mouth before waving at Harry and Dig, and with a call of “Enjoy!” trailed her beautician down the corridor. Jas followed suit, throwing Dig a wink as she went. Teagan touched Harry lightly on the arm. “Just relax. You’ll be fine.” Then she leaned close. “But if they offer you an enema, say no.” And with a giggle she trotted off, leaving Harry feeling faint from the blood that had just drained from his face to pool in his boots. Enema? Enema? Oh, I can't wait to read this book! I adore Harry already. Summer and the Groomsman is releasing in eBook format on 10th November and you can pre-order it now so that it downloads automatically, all ready for reading. Excerpt from So Far Into You by Lily MaloneThe boys and the dog from next door were kicking their soccer ball in the park as he turned into Remy’s street. Her driveway was empty. A tail of smoke wisped from the chimney but her house had the shut-up look of a primary school at end of term. He’d bought two takeaway coffees. They sat in the cup-holders on the dash and looking at them, he felt like a bit of a dick. Hey. I was in the area, Rem. Thought you might like a coffee. He’d come this far. He had to see if she was home. He turned in the cul-de-sac and parked on the opposite side of the street. The hedge hid Remy’s house. Skirting a murky brown puddle, Seth started up the driveway. His was so engrossed in watching the house he wasn’t paying attention to where he stepped, but the second he saw movement in the window, he forgot about his feet. It was Remy. He knew by the way her left hand trapped a flick of blonde ponytail at the nape of her neck. It was how he’d first seen her in the park, standing with her back to him. His foot crunched gravel. Instinctively, Seth moved to the edge of the driveway where heavy weeds masked his step. Remy’s posture felt private and he didn’t want to scare her. As he neared the timber steps he slowed again. There were voices. No. He could hear a voice—Remy’s voice—quite clearly. But it was different: lilting, almost singsong, as if she might be reading poetry, or rehearsing a scene from a play. He tested his weight on the bottom step. When it didn’t creak or groan he gained the next two levels and approached her front door. His knuckles were poised to knock when he heard Remy say, clear as day: Oooh - what a cheat this Lily Malone is! She can't just leave us hanging there, can she? What did Remy say? Well... dare I say, you'll have to read So Far Into You and find out for yourself. So Far Into You was released today! Congratulations Lily. Buy now and get set to read.
