A brand new series set in - Texas! I am so happy to tell you that I will be writing a three-book series titled The Mackillop Girls of Calamity Valley for the wonderful and much loved by readers everywhere, Tule Publishing in the US. I'll be part of the Southern Born imprint of Tule Publishing and I'm joining many amazing authors, and feel humbled and lucky all at once. How good is that? I have to say, I love my job. I'll be giving you more information as it happens, but I can tell you now that The Mackillop Girls of Calamity Valley series is fun, and flirty, and maybe a little different to what you're used to reading from me - but only in so far as it's set in Texas. Everything else remains the same: my love of a small town and what goes on in those close knit communities. Calamity Valley has three towns, and only 97 residents. If you've read the Swallow's Fall series, that should give an inkling that it's pretty much business as usual: a great little town in need of a boost, a serious romance, and a few other dramas of the completely unexpected kind. Talking of the unexpected...The other fantastic thing to happen this week was the arrival of a box full of my author paperback copies of A Place to Stay. This is book #1 in my new small-town Rangelands series set in outback Western Australia and is published in eBook by Harlequin's Escape Publishing and in paperback in Australia and New Zealand by Harlequin MIRA. It will be out in eBook on 21 November, and in the shops around 25th November. You can read more about A Place to Stay and pre-order your copies here. Getting your author copies and holding that book in your hands is an extraordinary moment. All that hard work, and angst, and fun, and everything else that goes into making a book a real book - this is one of the moments you realise you did it. I have more books planned for my amazing publisher, Harlequin Australia, who have given me so many wonderful opportunities to bring my stories to you, my readers, and I look forward to letting you in on the inside info soon! That's great Jennie, a huge congrats! May I ask why all you wonderful Aussie authors feel the need to write books set in America? I really don't understand, why is Australian set stories never good enough and you need to venture further afield? Now me writing this is not bagging anyone or anything out I will always read your stories no matter what, I am just so curious as to know why?

What a good question Sue! Well I have to say first that I do not think Australian set books are considered 'not good enough' because we have plenty of overseas followers – heaps! I have an American readership and they’ve liked my Aussie set books and I happen to like any number of American authors’ books alongside my Australian author favourites. But basically, I view it this way: a) it’s like expanding your craft as you would by writing a completely different genre – and it’s a challenge. Fires the brain up to do something different now and again. And b) I want to 😊 I’ll never stop writing Australia set books but I do like to “travel” via my writing and reading.
