It’s traumatic, isn’t it? Where Book Shops Remember those? Where a silver doorbell tinkles when you walk in and you smell the thick paper, the bindings, the recent dusting and you browse the shelves, actually touching the books. There aren’t so many book shops left though, so here are some other places you can buy and read your book. Amazon.com You can read your book on your Kindle. Amazon.co.uk You can read your book on your Kindle. .com /.co.uk - What’s the difference? You might not be able to purchase The House on Burra Burra Lane on Amazon.com if you live in the UK, and vice versa, although you can if you live in Australia. (Don’t ask me why.) Good news! You can download Amazon’s Kindle for pc FREE (US, UK and Australia). Then all you do is read the book on your computer. iTunes / iBookstore (Same thing, different possibilities.) With iTunes you can read your book on your computer. With iBooks you can read your book on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Kobo You can read on Desktop, eReaders, Tablets, Kobo, Android and iPhone. eBooks.com You can read on Kindle Fire, Apple, Android, Nook, Kobo, PC, Mac, Sony Reader. Lastly: the author's website or blog page or the publisher of the book. An internet search will (or should) produce the page and you can bet all savvy authors and publishers have Where to Buy links on thier sites (see mine below ☺). Where do I find the best price? Check out the department stores and bookshops whilst you're grocery shopping, or cyber-shop around whilst the children are occupied elsewhere! All that’s left is to choose where to read your book. How about your comfiest armchair; in bed; in the garden on a summer’s afternoon; in the conservatory on a winter’s afternoon; at the park; in your favourite café; on the train/tube/bus (please don’t read whilst driving); at work (when the boss isn’t looking!) Happy purchasing, happy pre-ordering and most of all … Happy Reading ♥ ![]() Where to purchase/pre-order my book: Escape Publishing (My publisher - Harlequin (Australia) digital-first imprint.) Amazon Kindle (Kindle.) Amazon.co.uk (Kindle.) iBookstore (iTunes - read on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with iBooks and on your computer with iTunes). Kobo (Read on Desktop, eReaders, Tablets, Kobo, Android and iPhone.) Barnes & Noble (NOOK book) eBooks.com (Read on Kindle Fire, Apple, Android, Nook, Kobo, PC, Mac, Sony Reader.) 4/5/2013 09:37:58 am
Jennie, I can so relate with that gorgeous little bell ringing and the smell ... oh, the smell ... and the nostalgia of gorgeous little bookshops tucked away in an alley! I'm awful because as I read a "real" book I love to fan the pages so that the smell wafts up to me and envelops all five of my senses ... As for The House on Burra Burra Lane - while I don't have a "real" copy, I got it via NetGalley and am waiting for it to reach the top of my pile :)

I love that little bell. There's one in The House on Burra Burra Lane. Glad you got a copy for review from NetGalley (gulp). Like you, I love to fan the pages of a real book. The older the better. If it's on my bookshelf, it's there for a reason. I truly loathe the kindle, but we have to live with it! There is nothing, NOTHING, like the smell of a book that's been sitting on your much loved bookcase for years and years and years. 4/5/2013 10:01:09 am
The bell ... it's nostalgia inducing! There has to be a bell ... that's what makes the difference. Hmm, wonder if Kindle will introduce that!

What I really want Amazon (Kindle) to do is allow the reader to start at the beginning. i.e. - the cover, the intro, the dedication, the copyright info - instead of taking the reader immediately to Chapter One. I think by reading all the above, the reader gains a better sense of the author and might even remember the name of the book by the time he/she gets to the last Kindle page!

Good point about starting at the front cover, Jennie! I usually go back on my Kindle so I see the cover, dedication etc. It adds something to the reading experience for me. Sad to think how easily one can forget the title when it's not on each virtual 'page'.

Hi Susanne - yep. I learned the embarrassing way that I ought to start from the real start when I discovered I'd been mentioned by two very close writing friends in their acknowledgements! Imagine how mortifying that was. Now I always, always hit the ‘back’ button, so to speak. And I love reading the author biographies and who they thank and how they wrote the book. As you say, it’s all part of the experience so let’s not miss out on it just because it’s ‘virtual’. Comments are closed.
